Race is… Identity with a group of people who share a biological ancestor or biological characteristics Race comes from a middle French word for generation

Nationality is… Identity with a group of people who share legal attachment and personal allegience to a particular country Nationality comes from a Latin word, nasci, meaning ‘to have been born’

Nationality vs Ethnicity  Nationality Membership defined through shared cultural values Values revolving around voting, obtaining citizenship, obtaining a passport, performing civic duties  Ethnicity Membership defined through shared cultural values Values revolving around religion, language and other material culture
