Our Lady of Peace Thirteenth Week of the Year Luke 9: Welcome Jesus

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke Response: Glory to you, O Lord

Gospel of the Lord Luke

Gospel of the Lord Luke Jesus was travelling to Jerusalem. He came near a village but the people living there did not make him welcome. They did not want him coming into their village. The Disciples were upset and said to Jesus ‘Let us take revenge on them for being unkind to you’ But Jesus told them that it was wrong to be angry and Jesus led them away to find another village where they would be made welcome.

The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection Jesus was travelling to Jerusalem. He came near a village but the people living there did not make him welcome. They did not want him coming into their village. The Disciples were upset and said to Jesus ‘Let us take revenge on them for being unkind to you’ But Jesus told them that it was wrong and he just carried on with his journey Every day of our lives we have to make choices, sometimes we make the right choice and sometimes we make the wrong choice. What we need to remember is if we make a wrong choice, it is not too late to make the right choice and change your mind. Jesus is there to help us. I would like you to put your hands together and listen carefully. Sometime when people are mean or unkind to us we want to be mean back to them because they have hurt us in some way. We may think it is alright to be mean back because they started it. Today Jesus gives us a clear message WE SHOULD NOT BE MEAN BACK. We need to walk away from them and carry on with what we were doing. It is not easy to ignore people when they are mean to us, but we can all ask Jesus to help us be strong.

Walk away and ask Jesus to help us to be strong

Prayer

Closing Prayer Lord, when I choose the way to go Help me choose the good way. When I choose the things to say, help me say what you would say. Help me always to do what is right Help me always shine your light. Lord Jesus May I see you in the people around me and welcome you with a warm smile and a loving heart. Help me to listen to your message of love and peace: the Good News which you came to share with our world. Amen
