The Deciduous Forest Biome By: Julia Geer, Denise Ponce, Saloni Sharma, and Mike Brath

Basic Description The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F. The average rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year. There are 4 distinct seasons (fall, winter, spring, and summer)

Variety of Organisms Eastern Chipmunk European Red Squirrel American Black Bear White Tailed Deer Coyote American Bald Eagle Guelder Rose Lady Fern White Oak

Located Eastern eastern half of North America, middle of Europe. Asia southwest Russia Japan South America has two big areas of deciduous forests in southern Chile and Middle East coast of Paraguay New Zealand, and southeastern Australia also.

What makes a Deciduous Forest different from other biomes? In a Deciduous forest there are 5 zones Sapling Tree Stratum Shrub Herb Ground

Food Web Producers (plants) Primary consumers (eat producers) Secondary consumers (eat primary consumers) Tertiary Consumers (eat secondary consumers)

Food Chain Primary Secondary

Abiotic and Biotic Factors Abiotic: Temperature Sunlight: present during all 4 seasons Water: in forms of lakes, creaks, and rivers Precipitation Rock: present in our biodome Biotic: Animals Plants

Cycling of Nutrients

The way the ecosystem would work without a level If one level is gone there will slowly be a domino effect and cause the whole ecosystem to fall apart.

Strengths Weaknesses Many Trees provide coverage for animals Floods Falling leaves enrich soil The season Spring promotes new life Materials and food Plants are most likely to grow back again Animals are able to adapt Drastic changes in temperature due to seasons Floods Popular for hunting Popular for resources Disease wipes out many plants A victim to deforestation
