Why did Lucky Lindy disappear in the Pacific Ocean on her flight around the world? Stephen K.

History of Amelia Earhart Amelia Earhart was born in July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. She became interested in flight at the age of six when Frank Hawks gave her a ride in his plane. She received the Flying Cross for flying across the Atlantic Ocean in She was the first woman to fly solo across this ocean and was known for setting many other aviation records.

Mystery of Disappearance In 1937, Amelia Earhart attempted to fly around the world. Her first attempt failed due to technical difficulties and she had to land near Pearl Harbor. During her second attempt she was low on fuel and radioed that she would land at Howland Island in the Pacific. She never made it and was never heard from again.

Science Fiction Theories There are many conspiracy theories surrounding Earhart’s disappearance: Taken prisoner by the Japanese and executed because they believed her to be a spy. Still alive and living under a different identify. Some have said to have spotted her in New Jersey.

Scientific Explanation Many scientists and historians believe one of two things happened to Amelia Earhart: Landed on Gardner Island which was 350 miles from Howland Island. Many think she lived out her life here. A research expedition found artifacts including a size 9 shoe and zipper from a flight suit as well as bones from a human finger. Crashed somewhere in the Pacific and died on impact. Her plane sank erasing all evidence. Due to the size of the Pacific Ocean, it is possible for all parts of the wreckage to have been washed away, especially if it had broken into pieces.

Your Reasoned Judgment I believe Amelia Earhart lived her last days as a castaway on Gardner Island because they found many remains and artifacts, best of all bones.
