2. Biography In 1897, Amelia was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24. In 1908, Amelia was 11 when she first saw an airplane. In 1917, she spent Christmas with her sister because they became a nurse to help people in World War I at Toronto, Canada.

3. Biography In January of 1921, she took the first flying lesson and then she bought an airplane in July in 1924. In 1928 Amelia was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1931, she married George P. Putnam on February 7. In 1932 she flew alone across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937, she disappeared in the Pacific Ocean.
