Objectives At the end of this exercise, you will be able to:

Interface the HAI Omni II to a system of X10 modules. Program the system of X10 modules to perform a simple task using the HAI Omni II as the interface and the Omni II consoles as the program input device. Program the system of X10 modules to perform a simple task using the HAI Omni II as the interface and a PC computer running PC Access as the programming device.

About This Presentation You have already had experience installing and operating various X10 products. Before you perform this exercise about X10, let’s look at some other power line carrier standards and see how they compare to X10. The more we know, the more intelligently we can make decisions.

Introduction Powerline Carrier (PLC) Home Control Technology Powerline Communications Networking or Broadband Powerline, BPL

Broadband Powerline (BPL) Broadband over power line within the home Broadband over power lines outside the home, from place to place Access BPL

Three Communication Lines BPL modem integrated circuits CATV DSL

How Can That Happen? AC Power Lines Inductive Couplers Bypassing the Transformer

HomePlug The HomePlug Powerline Alliance Develops industry standards Helps to further automate your home

HomePlug and the future In-the-home applications To-the-home applications Today’s products Entertainment networking
