There is always something new to learn or understand. Practitioners will undergo regular professional development so that their knowledge and skills are always up to date. 1. They may invite in a guest speaker to talk about a specific subject. Having the training in the setting during an evening or weekend means that all staff could attend. 1. The training will take place in a location where lots of people can attend. This will give practitioners opportunities to meet practitioners from other settings. 1. This will keep their practice up to date and will enable them to refresh certain skills, such as first aid. We are all continually learning, and professional development will enable practitioners to gain new knowledge and skills. 1. Consider: How much does it cost? How long is the training? When does it start? Do they do refresher courses? Why is it important for practitioners to keep their first aid knowledge up to date? A manager may decide that a practitioner needs to go on a training course, maybe because of a child with specific needs in the setting. Consider: The content of the training session Your own commitments on a Saturday How it will benefit your own practice Professional attitudes to training How your setting values you How would you tell your supervisor if it is not possible for you to attend? 1. These do not have to be organised training sessions.
