Consider: Do you write up rough notes? How often do you check your bank statement? Do you create ‘to do’ lists? Do you ever track your phone usage? Do you file paperwork away? 4 CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator Record keeping and reporting to keep children safe When working in partnership there will be records of all meetings and these will be completed in accordance to the policies and procedures of the setting. Minutes should be kept of all meetings and these will identify any action points and who is to complete these. Meetings may raise any issues regarding children’s safety. 5 CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator Record keeping and reporting to keep children safe Records must be accurate and coherent. Written records will document exactly what has been said and done and therefore need to be completely accurate. These records must accurately describe any incident or accident so that the appropriate actions can be taken. Records may be referred to at a later date so they must be signed and dated. Information needs to be shared effectively and accurately. 10 CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator Partnership working in relation to child protection Effective partnership working will ensure that all children are protected. Any concerns should be recorded, reported and shared appropriately and this will ensure that children are kept safe. Acting on concerns should mean that a dangerous or inappropriate situation will be stopped or averted. Research one of these cases and list the failings in partnership working. 12 CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator Extension activity Time: 15 mins After the serious case review into the death of Baby P, the head of children’s services for his local authority was removed from her post. The post was to be covered temporarily until a suitable replacement could be found. Analyse the possible reasons behind this and the impact on other cases.
