Introduction GMC requirement to “recognise” all trainers in “Named-Trainer roles” Incorporated into appraisal process RoT form as appraisal supporting information In Scotland, achieved via SOAR Year 1 = 2015/2016 Year 2 = 2016/2017 (further development scheduled)

Systems overview Named-Trainer data is held on Turas (NES Training Management system) Trainer data sent to SOAR via overnight automated processes If Trainer Surname and GMC number are matched, the following is added to SOAR: – Named trainer role(s), and associated health board(s) and EO(s) If Trainer details incorrect – contact DME

Who completes the RoT Form? Secondary Care users – With named-trainer roles following data import – Optional for those working to becoming a Trainer GPs – Non approved GP Trainers who supervise foundation trainees; or – Non approved GP Trainers who provide supervision in OOH in “named trainer role” – Approved GP Trainers DO NOT complete RoT forms – Supervising Clinicians DO NOT complete RoT forms If incorrectly ID’ed as trainer – contact DME

Appraisal No such thing as “ROT Appraisal” RoT and uploaded docs (under Form 3 Domain 1) to be submitted as part of appraisal supporting info Discussed as part of appraisal process Summary of discussion added on Form 4 Appraisers asked to verify supporting information only Recognition process rests with DMEs and EOs

Form 7 When Form 4 is signed off, Form 7 is automatically generated Form 7 – a read-only copy of all RoT information on submitted Form 3 and signed off Form 4 DMEs and EOs have NO access to Form 4, only Form 7 DMEs and EOs make their recognition decision on Form 7

New simplified RoT form (1/5) Required if ID’ed in import as “named trainer” Are you an Approved GP Trainer? – for those with a GP appraisee role If Yes – RoT form is disabled If No, but has named Trainer role from import – complete RoT form If No, and have no named roles, RoT form is disabled

New simplified RoT form (2/5) Section A: Educational Governance Requirements If you are unable to accept/tick all 3 requirements then you must provide additional comments to explain why.  I have a GMC Licence to Practice.  I have completed equality and diversity training as required by my employer. I am currently practising within the field(s) relevant to my training role(s).  I have appropriate time allocated within my role.

New simplified RoT form (3/5) Section B: Role Specific Requirements  By ticking the checkbox you confirm the following: I understand the requirements of my role and how that role fits with other educational and clinical roles. I know how to get support if needed. I understand the curriculum and career stage of my students/trainees. These requirements should have been addressed through your induction.

New simplified RoT form (4/5) Section C: Generic Trainer Skills You must provide evidence of an appropriate level of teaching development. For most trainers this will involve providing supporting information mapped to the GMCs framework areas.  By ticking the checkbox you confirm you can demonstrate that you meet the GMC framework areas and have uploaded relevant supporting information: 1.Ensuring safe and effective patient care through training 2.Establishing and maintaining an environment for learning 3.Teaching and facilitating learning 4.Enhancing learning through assessment 5.Supporting and monitoring educational process 6.Guiding personal and professional development 7.Continuing professional development (CPD) as an educator Each bullet point will be hyperlinked to STF website Each bullet point will be hyperlinked to STF website
