Exploration Pro: Computers allow students to learn through exploring the internet and doing research. It can keep students engaged. Con: Some students will explore beyond the bounds and parameters of the project and become distracted by other activities that they find on the internet.

Lesson Integration Pro: By incorporating technology into lessons, students will become more engaged in and excited about the subject at hand. Con: Finding the right materials online to integrate into a lesson is not always easy because it means teachers may have to spend more time planning lessons.

Costs Pro: Schools can secure grants to help pay for technology in the classroom. Con: Technology is expensive and schools with minimal technology resources can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

Special Needs Pro: In special needs classrooms, each student is able to go at his or her own pace with the help of technology. Con: Special needs technology can be very expensive and take an inordinate amount of money to acquire and operate.

Training Pro: Training required for teachers and students using technology in the classroom will keep the users computer literate. Con: Training to use computers in the classroom can be costly and time-consuming. Many teachers are unwilling to participate in the extra training.

Response to the Pros I think that overall the pros of using technology in teaching are worth dealing with the cons. Computers allow students to explore things for themselves. Students become more engaged. And it’s a good learning experience.

Response to the Cons Although there are many good things about using technology in teaching, there are also cons of it. Students may be distracted by the technology, it takes time for teachers to plan around, and it can be expensive to provide enough for everyone.

Video Response In the clip of “Stand and Deliver” the teacher uses many different teaching strategies. At first he made them repeat what was on the board which helps them be engaged. Then, he gets on their level by relating to them. Overall, Mr. Escalante used great teaching techniques to engage his students in to the curriculum.
