NEW National Society Agreement PROCESS Region 10 Meeting, Bangkok, March 4-6, 2016 Eddie Custovic Chair, IEEE Victorian Section IEEE Publication Services & Products Board (PSPB) Vice-Chair, IEEE Young Professionals – Products & Services Joe Lillie, IEEE Emeritus Director Theodore Hissey, IEEE Emeritus Director

What is a NSA ?? 2  A cooperative relationship established through an MOU with a National Society (NS) of the country to assist the personal and professional knowledge and growth of the members of both organizations.  Examples of National Societies:  India – Computer Society of India, The Institution of Engineers …..  Japan – Institution of Professional Engineers Japan…..  Australia – Engineers Australia…..  China – Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering….  Designed to assist in the development and elevation of technical skills, image, professional growth, and networking.  Beneficial to both organizations by increasing publicity, image, and interest in engineering and its related fields of interests.

What are we trying to solve and how? 3 The Problems : Sections/Councils where is no/minimal collaboration with National society Sections/Councils where there is an MOU/agreement but lack of Section activity after the agreement is in place. – No current requirement to identify joint activities The Solution: Document first year joint activities prior to the signing of the agreement. –Document three (3) joint first year activities –Planning required to improve performance –Both IEEE Section and NS will provide activity managers –Follow-up to measure success

Previous NSA process vs. The NSA process today 4 Previous NSA processThe NSA process today Contacted local IEEE Section first for approvalContact local IEEE Section first for approval Further guidance was then provided from the IEEE Section and IEEE Corporate Activities Further guidance will then be provided – if required - from the IEEE Section and IEEE Corporate Activities NS and IEEE OU discussed and signed the standard NSA wording – without modifications -as found in the WEB site NS and IEEE OU discuss and sign the new standard NSA wording – without modifications - as found in the Attachment A – and will be found in the future in the WEB site NSA sent to IEEE HQ for IEEE President’s signatureNote – Up to now, the present and future approach are the same – except for the addition of one sentence to the wording of the NSA :”This agreement comes into force by The signature of all parties, and the signing of the completed Supplement#1 - project program” NS and IEEE OU should complete the Supplement #1 and sign Submit signed Supplement #1 along with signed NSA to IEEE HQ for IEEE President’s signature Designate a NSA project manager from each party (NS and IEEE OU) IEEE Corp and NSA will monitor and provide a review of cooperative activities during the year

The NSA process – for the future 5 Required new activities  NS and IEEE OU must complete - and sign - a proposed cooperative project activity calendar for the first year of the three year NSA  NS and IEEE OU must designate an NSA project manager from each party - NS and IEEE OU - to ensure cooperative projects are carried out  IEEE Corporate will request information and a report of cooperative activities during each year of the NSA  During year #1 – NS and IEEE OU will define the cooperative activities for year #2. Then again - during year #2, the NS/IEEE cooperative activities for year #3 of the NSA must be defined. (Note – Upon review -NS and IEEE OU’s not completing cooperative activities for the three year term of the NSA will not be re-signed!!) Analyze, review, modify, and continue to improve Process Results and Added Value derived from NS – IEEE OU cooperative activities (Continuous via COLLABRATEC) -- and Report results starting 2017

Where to next? 6  Each section chair should have been ed the NSA documentation. If you have not received this please let us know  Every section chair should have been added into the NSA group in Collabratec. Please post questions and join the discussion.  Each section chair should present the new NSA process to their respective section committee  Engage your National Society in order to collaborate and formalise the partnership
