Master Teacher Program Overview Fall 2014

Master Teacher Program MT is now considered one requirement for the pathway for an advanced level of licensure National Board Certification is another pathway for an advanced level of licensure

A. Master Teacher Definition A master teacher demonstrates excellence inside and outside of the classroom through consistent leadership and focused collaboration to maximize student learning. A master teacher strives for distinguished teaching and continued professional growth as specified by Standards for Ohio Educators. The definition is grounded in the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession and the Ohio Standards for Professional Development. The standards served as a basis for development throughout the documents and are included in your packet.

Continued Professional Growth Master Teacher Criteria A teacher has to provide a written narrative and supporting evidence for each of the five criteria. The five criteria are common across the 7 teaching standards and supported in the PD standards.

Master Teacher Processes and Procedures Eligibility requirements –Professional license/certificate* –Taught 7 years –Work a minimum of 120 days –Work under a teaching contract * (Pg. 2 on FAQ) To be eligible for Master Teacher designation the candidate must have a teaching license. If the candidate holds a teaching license in addition to a pupil service license (ex: PT, OT, SLP, Psyc, etc.) then he/she would be eligible.

Section I: Candidate Information Complete and Submit Forms to Committee –MASTER TEACHER APPLICATION/NARRATIVE –OHIO MASTER TEACHER CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATION FORM Application Form available on the district’s website in the Human Resources Department under Master Teacher Committee ODE’s website Development/Master-Teacher

Section IV: Summary of Scoring Sample Scoring & Guidelines in Packet Note: Individual criterion can be submitted and scored separately. Once your application has been approved, you have 5 years to complete the process. After 5 years, you must restart. Master Teacher Incentives Qualifies for Advanced Licensure Qualifies for $1,000 Stipend for the 5 year duration of your designation as Master Teacher Qualifies for IPDP Renewal –1 Exemplary Criterion approved by MT Committee = 3 CEU’s from LPDC –Successful completion of entire process = 18 CEU’s

Master Teacher Summary Aligns with licensure structure Meets advanced licensure criteria Teachers may re-apply when the designation expires Candidates not meeting designation requirements may amend and re-apply the following year

Master Teacher Renewal Designation expires after 5 yrs. Designation must be maintained to transition to or renew Senior Professional or Lead Professional licenses
