ACP-EU/SPC BSRP Project Support in Emergency Telecommunications Taito Nakalevu Project Manager Pacific Community (SPC)

BSRP Project Period – 2014 to 2018 – No Cost Extension (March, 2019) Budget – € 19.37million 15 PICs including Timor Leste Objective – Reduce the vulnerability, as well as the social, economic and environmental costs of disasters caused by natural hazards, thereby achieving regional and national sustainable development and poverty alleviation in ACP Pacific Island States.

BSRP Project KEY RESULT AREAS: R1 - Effective preparedness, response and recovery R2 - Strengthened institutional arrangements for DRM and CCA R3 - Improved knowledge, information, public awareness, training and education R4 - Improved understanding of natural hazards and the reduction of underlying risks R5 - Enhanced partnerships in DRM and Climate Change

BSRP Project RESULT AREAS 1: Effective preparedness, response and recovery EOC/PEOCs – FIJI, SOLOMON, TONGA, TIMOR, SAMOA, VANUATU

Radio Based EWS Systems RESULT AREAS 1: Effective preparedness, response and recovery SAMOA - Emergency Radio Network (ERN) strengthening. Maintenance of ERN – reconfigure ERN Network to increase user capacity. PALAU - Relocation of HF Antenna on Department of Justice towers

BSRP Project RESULT AREAS 1: Effective preparedness, response and recovery MOBILE EOCs - New Mobile EOC/ Command vehicle fitted with radio communications & data links to enable the reporting of the ground situation back to the EOC. - Tonga/Samoa/Fiji/Solomon /Vanuatu/ FSM/RMI etc.

BSRP Project KEY RESULT AREA: 2 Strengthened institutional arrangements for DRM and CCA Incorporate the Cluster Coordination arrangement into the revised Act and Plan Incorporate issues and current best practices on Emergency Management, and Climate Change Incorporate private sector partnership as an important component of the revised Act and Plan
