All About Soil April 2014

Soil Soil is made up of rock material that has been broken down over time into tiny grains by wind and rain. Soil also contains a variety of materials including minerals, and decayed plant and animal material.

Three Types of Soil Sand: Loose granular material that results from the erosion of rocks Clay: A stiff, sticky fine-grained earth, typically yellow or red in color’ clumps together with wet Humus: The organic component of soil, formed by the decomposition of leaves and other plant material by soil microorganisms Which type do you think would be the best for planting?

Soil Attributes Texture: The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance Capacity: The maximum amount that something can contain
