Main Line Health and Concord Township January 10, 2006

Presentation Introduction Information regarding the LI District and the site Background on Main Line Health Need for a facility in Concord Township Community feedback Qualifications of MLH to bring a healthcare facility to Concord Information regarding the project Impacts and benefits for Concord and surrounding areas

Main Line Health One of the largest and most highly regarded non-profit health systems in southeastern Pennsylvania Our hospitals—Lankenau, Bryn Mawr, Paoli, and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation—have served the region for 100+ years MLH includes the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, the Home Care Network, Main Line Clinical Labs, Great Valley Health and other healthcare entities

Main Line Health We have 7,600 employees and serve over 250,000 patients each year We have over 1,200 physicians on staff We support and invest in the communities we serve

Main Line Health Community Perception Study 2006 98% of residents near Paoli Hospital said it was important to have a hospital like Paoli in their community 91% agreed that Paoli Hospital is a good neighbor Other Main Line Health hospitals have similar relationships with their communities

The Need Western Delaware and Chester counties experienced explosive population growth over the past five years which is expected to continue through the next decade Existing senior population coupled with aging baby boomers will create an unprecedented demand for healthcare services There are fewer hospitals in the region today than 10 years ago. The last new acute care hospital in Delco opened in 1963 and in Chesco in 1959. Delco hospitals are concentrated toward the eastern end of the county.

The Need Based on population growth and an aging factor, inpatient bed demand is projected to increase from 384 in 2004 to 475 in 2012, an increase of 91 beds Over 1,000 area residents leave the state for inpatient care in Delaware State hospitals Today’s consumers demand state-of-the-art healthcare and will not compromise on quality and the latest technology

Why Concord Township Determined general need Looked for specific sites in Chesco/Delco that are natural extensions of the existing MLH service area Considered more than 25 sites Concord site best met selection criteria

Community Feedback 1,000 area residents interviewed 88% agree that the facility will meet their healthcare needs 85% agree that the site is a good location The primary reason for positive interest in the proposed facility at this site was the proximity to quality healthcare it afforded consumers

Community Feedback The average travel time for many residents to the proposed site would be less than it takes to travel to the facility they currently use Most would like to have emergency, ambulatory and inpatient services closer to home

Why Main Line Health MLH is a locally-controlled, non-profit health system with a history of community service and collegial relationships with other healthcare providers Non-profit healthcare keeps community resources in the community

Why Main Line Health We already serve patients from this area and more than 450 MLH employees and their families live in the area MLH is strong clinically, financially, and is part of Jefferson Health System MLH is an economic engine in the communities it serves

Benefits for Concord More convenient access to care reduced travel times and distances faster access to emergency care Healthcare is an economic plus. By 2015 we project: 900 new direct and indirect jobs $83 million in total economic impact More than $300,000 in local tax revenue

Benefits for Concord MLH hospitals among the “Best Places to Work” (Source: Philadelphia Business Journal) Thousands served with health education, screenings and community service MLH employees last year donated almost $15 million to local charities and more than $12 million in volunteer time
