Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me! “And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died” (Judges 1:7).

Judges 1:1-3 “Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, “Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?” And the LORD said, “Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand.” So Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory.” And Simeon went with him.”

Judges 1:4-7 “Then Judah went up, and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they killed ten thousand men at Bezek. And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him; and they defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites. Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes. And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me!  The Man

The Man – Adoni-Bezek 1) His name. “A proper noun identifying Adoni-Bezek, a Canaanite king. The name means “Lord of Bezek.” He was an unjust king towards his conquered people and in the end received “poetic justice” for these misdeeds (Judg. 1:4-7). He was defeated by Simeonites and Judahites (Judg. 1:4) at Bezek. He was mutilated and brought to Jerusalem where he expired. Bezek was located northeast of Shechem (cf. 1 Sam. 11:8) (The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament).

The Man – Adoni-Bezek 2) His cruelty. “And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table…” (Judges 1:7). The cutting off of the thumbs and big toes was to render them unfit for war. This man was not satisfied with just mutilating these kings’ bodies. He also feed them like dogs, having to gather scrapes beneath his table.

The Man – Adoni-Bezek 3) His confession. “And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died” (Judges 1:7).

Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me!  The Man  Sow – Reap

You Reap What You Sow “Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes” (Judges 1:6).

You Reap What You Sow 1) Paul’s warning. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Galatians 6:7- 8).

You Reap What You Sow 2) Sow evil reap evil. (a) Sow neglect you will reap destruction. (b) Sow a bad example you will reap it with your children. (c) Sow profanity you will hear it from your offspring. (d) Sow dishonesty you will reap its penalty. (e) Sow gambling you will reap its ruin. (f) Sow immorality you will reap its ugly fruit. (g) Sow ungodliness you will reap a lost soul.

You Reap What You Sow “Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard” (Proverbs 13:15).

You Reap What You Sow 3) Sow to the Spirit – reap eternal life. (a) Sow kindness reap kindness. (b) Sow helpfulness reap helpfulness. (c) Sow generosity reap generosity. (d) Sow forgiveness reap forgiveness. (e) Sow faithfulness reap God’s blessings.

You Reap What You Sow “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive” (Genesis 50:20).

Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me!  The Man  Sow – Reap  Sins Exposed

Your Sins Will Find You Out “Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes. And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died” (Judges 1:6-7).

You Sins Will Find You Out 1) Moses warned. “But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).

You Sins Will Find You Out 2) The example of King David. “Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:7).

You Sins Will Find You Out “Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” (2 Samuel 12:1-4).

You Sins Will Find You Out “So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul” (2 Samuel 12:5-7).

You Sins Will Find You Out 3) Unforgiven sin & the judgment. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).

Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me!  The Man  Sow – Reap  Sins Exposed  God Repays

God Repays! “And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died” (Judges 1:6-7).

God Repays 1) Vengeance belongs to the Lord. “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:19-21).

God Repays 2) We must not render evil for evil. “See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all” (1 Thessalonians 5:15). “Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Peter 3:9).

Adoni-Bezek – God Has Repaid Me!  The Man  Sow – Reap  Sins Exposed  God Repays  Seek Forgiveness

Seek Forgivenss! “And Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me.” Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died” (Judges 1:6-7).

Seek Forgiveness! 1) For the alien sinner. “And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized” (Acts 16:30-33).

Seek Forgiveness! 2) For the erring Christian. “Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity” (Acts 8:22-23).

Seek Forgiveness! 3) You can wait to long! “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment” (Luke 16:27-28).
