Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B MWL701 Business Internship Experience - Business Simulation stream Trimester : ACME Trading Program Overview

Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B COURSE OVERVIEW The ACME Trading program is an on campus Business Experience Simulation offered within the MWL701 Business Internship Experience unit This program is designed to provide a simulated business experience, from initial recruitment phase, working within a team on a project developed by industry professionals, through to presentation of project outcomes to a board of management

Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B COURSE OBJECTIVES This program is undertaken within a simulated environment similar to what students would expect to experience when seeking graduate positions, from the initial hiring process through to onboarding and supervised project work. There are three key outcomes: 1.Students will develop their CV and professional digital footprint and have the know-how necessary to secure work 2.Students will develop an increased awareness of what is expected of them in the work environment and what it takes to be successful 3.Students will gain experience in completing a case study, business reports and presentations – often a requirement of current workplaces

Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B About the ACME Trading Company ACME Trading is a simulated company that provides the framework for this experience. ACME is a mid-size importer of health foods and supplements. They supply products to both major supermarkets and other boutique health stores. Several years ago, ACME acquired Organic Life, a network of 35 food retailers around Australia, in order to diversify their distribution model following pricing and supply-chain pressures from Safeway and Coles post the GFC in 2008.

Deakin University CRICOS Provider Code: 00113B Unit requirements In replicating a work environment, this unit requires students to conduct themselves in a professional manner, including wearing business attire and exhibiting appropriate workplace behaviours. Students can apply for a range of positions such as finance and accounting, marketing, project lead and operations. Students will be required to attend on-campus each Friday from 9am to 5pm, with some field work (off campus) also required. This is a strict requirement of the unit, and non-attendance without prior approval will impact on unit completion requirements.
