Let me start this brief introduction to ‘CCE’ by introducing myself: My name is Vyju Manian I’m as Associate Director of Graduate Student Career Development – ‘GSCD’ GSCD is a 4 person team responsible for the career education for graduate students workshops events - panels, speakers counseling Send out weekly Newsletter!!! How many of you have worked? How did you land you firsrt job? Was it a referral? Did you apply on the company’s website? How many of you have visited your career center in your undergraduate institution? Every employer is looking for a specific set of skills from job-seekers that match the skills necessary to perform a particular job. But beyond these job-specific technical skills, certain skills are nearly universally sought by employers. The best news is that once you understand the skills and characteristics that most employer seek, you can tailor your job-search communication -- your resume, cover letter, and interview language -- to showcase how well your background aligns with common employer requirements. Numerous studies have identified these critical employability skills, sometimes referred to as "soft skills." Teamwork Leadership Communication Problem-solving Initiative

Network: with professionals to strengthen your industry knowledge. Majority of jobs are filled by referral and information gathered through your contacts. Experience: Internships/ research experience/ part-time or full time jobs/volunteering/ leadership roles in students clubs/professional organization Explore your interests, skills, values, and personality and connect these to career options Prepare well-written cover letters and resumes or CVs Network with professionals Experience potential career options and build transferable skills Explore Prepare Network Experience

Our job is: 1) to help you explore career options 2) to help you learn the skills needed to find attractive opportunities 3) to support you in landing the position you want….. We work closely with the engineering school - on workshops and events With my colleagues we also put together career fairs and similar larger scale events – and also run a job posting platform called LionShare This is the agenda for today’s orientation – Research shows that People change jobs on an average of 10 times in their career. To help you navigate the fair, we hold a workshop – Making the most of the career fair. The Making the Most of the Career Fair workshop is designed to give you tips on how to prepare for the event, make the most of meeting recruiters on the day of the fair, and provide you with techniques to follow up and make connections after the event Review Networker profiles; read tipsheets on making the most of a networking event We will also conduct extra sessions at Mudd to help with your resume prep Making the Most of the Graduate Career Fair Resumania Quick Questions: 1-4pm daily Credit: Char Smullyan
