Adolf Hitler is Born - April 20, 1889 Hitler's Father Dies - January 3, 1903 Hitler Fails Art Exam - October 1907 Hitler's Mother Dies - December 21, 1907 Hitler is Homeless in Vienna Based on the descriptions of these dates, what conclusions can be made about Hitler’s early years?

 WWI comes to an end. What feelings do you think are going through Hitler’s mind when he returns? Why?  Angry about the unfair punishments in the Treaty of Versailles  Struggling from four years of fierce combat  Hitler is jobless along with most German men returning home from war

 The new German government after WWI  Unpopular with the German people for signing the treaty of Versailles  Considered to be a traitor to Germany’s interests  Faced the same financial difficulties as the rest of the world

 Anti Semitism and beer cellar meetings attracts members in the early years  Hitler is a great public speaker  Has the support of Ernst Rohm-leader of the SA storm troopers  25 points of the German Workers’ Party:  Reject Treaty of Versailles  Lebensraum (living space)  Rejection of Jews and Marxian Socialism  National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazi for short)

 Germany experiences a severe financial crisis  Inflation to the extreme  Weimar Republic pledges to continue making reparation payments  Plotted a revolution to put the Nazis in power over Germany  Revolution was to take place at Munich Beer Hall where leaders were having a meeting  Revolution failed when Hitler desperately marched out of the beer hall to Munich  Hitler is arrested

 Translates to “My Struggle”  Book written by Hitler while in prison for his attempted Revolution  Hitler maps out his vision of the Aryan Race and his hatred for the Jews  Aryan is the superior race  Jews engaged in a nation wide conspiracy  Jews must be exterminated  Germany must acquire more land (Lebensraum-Living Space)  Defeat France

 A New Beginning- February 26, 1925  The Quiet Years Why do you think was referred to as the Quiet Years?  Hitler was NOT receiving full support within Germany  He was still seen as too RADICAL by most German people “He is a lunatic who failed to take over Germany”
