Vermont’s Core Teaching & Leadership Standards

13-member, teacher majority, policy-making board appointed by the Governor What is the VSBPE?

The Board’s purpose is to oversee the training, licensing and professional standards of teachers and administrators. Specifically, the Board has been empowered by the Legislature of the State of Vermont to:  Establish standards, to promote quality and effectiveness across the educator career continuum  Approve educator preparation programs and alternate routes that meet the standards  Oversee and monitor the application and licensing process  Develop a code of professional ethics and act as advisors regarding its interpretation  Adopt regulations and policies (Act 214) What does the VSBPE do?

Standard Speed Dates!

With your partner, review your assigned standard to determine what is essential for us to understand. Also, what is most “appealing” about this standard?

When the bell rings, members of the outside circle will rotate to the right to “meet” the next standard and to introduce your new partner to your standard.

With which standard did you have some “chemistry”? Is there any standard that remains a mystery to you? Did anything surprise you? Did you learn anything new? Is there anything you didn’t have a chance to ask or say?
