Let’s Go Global!

Globalization A socio-economic process in which the constraints of geography on social and economic arrangements recede and in which people become increasingly aware that they live in an interconnected world

The United States For this seminar you are to think about and discuss the United States’ role, as a world citizen, in seeing to the needs of other countries.

Around The World Around The World In the United States, we enjoy the luxury of having all of the latest medical and technological advances at our fingertips, and we often take these for granted. This is not true worldwide.

In many parts of the world, people do not even have the luxury of running water and electricity. In many Least Industrialized Nations (Third World countries) thousands of people die each year from starvation and diseases that could be easily eradicated.

Our Responsibility Is it our responsibility to “save the world?” –I’ll give you a few minutes to respond

Our Assistance When we step in to “help,” what is one positive outcomes of our assistance? What is one potential negative affects? Please name one. I’ll give you a minute to respond.

The Impact What impact does our involvement have on people’s customs, traditions, values, beliefs, and ways of life? NAME ONE IMPACT

AMERICANIZED? Does everyone want to be “Americanized?” Are their “needs” truly THEIR needs, or are they our interpretation of what we think they need?

Thanks! THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
