Candy Joseph Grace B1 Biology Effects of Electricity in Plants

Hypothesis Hypothesis:  The electricity will probably either slow down the speed of growth or it may kill the plants (using radishes)

Materials 10 plastic pots 2 copper rods 100 radish seeds (10 seeds per pot) Measuring cups (watering same amount of H2O) 9V Battery  Major thing needed; the electricity

The Experiment (Process) Step 1: Prepare for Experiment  Get all the materials (listed at the past slide)  Put the 10 pots in 2 rows; 5 on each side.  Plant seeds inside the pots  Label the side where electricity will pass through  Water the plants the exact amount (15omL) and place it next to the windowsill/heat lamp.

Process (Cont.) Step 2: Prepare Electricity  (Few days later) When the plants had started to grow, take out the 9V battery and the two copper rods.  Connect the battery and the copper rods by winding them together on the top (wind the copper rod over the top part of the battery)

Process (Cont.) Step 3: Experiment  Place the rods (connected to the battery) to the plastic pots  Make sure it’s at the opposite side; not touching each other  Leave it for 5 minutes, repeat for the other 4 pots

Process (Cont.) Step 4: Repeat  Repeat the process of Step 3 again every day Step 5: Measurements  After two weeks of the experiment, find the growth of the plant on each pot in cm (using a ruler).

Results/Conclusion The measurements of the radish on the shocked side was a shorter length than the other side Conclusion: Suspect that electricity doesn’t much help the plant’s growth.  Later after the measurements, the plants all died
