Synthesize, Analyze, Evaluate, Validity & Reliability LA

Cluster 4: Reference and Research  Locates, gathers analyzes and evaluates written information for a variety of purposes including research projects, real-world tasks, and self-improvement. Analyzes the validity and reliability of primary source information and uses the information appropriately. Synthesizes information from multiple sources to draw conclusions.  Content/focus  Analyze/evaluate information  Validity/reliability of information  Synthesizes information (from multiple sources and within text)

Definitions  Analyze- examine in detail the text.  Evaluate- form an idea about the passage, determine the significance.  Synthesize- to combine all information to create a new idea.  Validity- accuracy; quality; the reality of the information  Reliability- dependable; trustworthy; a reliable source of information

Definitions  Primary Source- an account of an event created by someone who took part in or witnessed the event. (firsthand information)  Secondary Source- an account provided after the fact by people who did not directly witness or participate in the event.
