Booker Taliaferro Washington Booker T. Washington was born in 1856 as a slave. At this time it was illegal to educate a black person! The only time he was allowed to go to school was to carry his master’s child’s textbooks! But that didn’t stop him from wanting an education. "I had the feeling that to get into a schoolhouse and study would be about the same as getting into paradise."
