Personal Responsibility What makes a good 6 mark AO1 answer?

Explain different Christian attitudes towards homosexuality. (6 marks) Some Christians such as Roman Catholics do not agree with homosexuality. A quote to support this is ‘Do not lie with a man as a man lies with a woman, that is detestable.’ This Old Testament quote suggests homosexuality is a sin and sexual relationships should only take place between a male and female. They view homosexuality as unnatural as it goes against God’s plan of having children. Therefore, Roman Catholics do not agree with homosexuality and because of this they teach that homosexual couples should remain celibate. Some Christians such as the Church of England argue that homosexuality is acceptable. A quote to support this is ‘Man is made in the image of God.’ Some Christians argue that God has a plan for each person and made them specially, so homosexuality must be acceptable otherwise God would not have made people this way. They also believe that just like heterosexual couples, homosexual couples can too have a loving, faithful and committed relationship and so should be treated equally. Therefore, the Church of England argue that homosexuality is acceptable and because of this they welcome homosexual couples who cannot remain celibate into the church.
