Who was Jackie Robison  Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play in baseball's major leagues in the modern era. Only white players were accepted in the major leagues until 1947, when Robinson was called up to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  Jackie Robison was a important man in history because he was the first black person to play in the MLB

Birth  January 31, Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia, the son of sharecropper Jerry Robinson, grandson of slave. When his father deserted the family, Jackie was six months old and his mother Mallie took the family to Pasadena, California, supporting her five children by washing and ironing clothes. His brother Mack would become a world- class sprinter, second to Jesse Owens in the 200-yard dash in the 1936 Olympics.
