Strömsund

Program for immigrants and integration We all have an equal responsibility to work with immigrants and integration. Politicians, bosses and colleagues. The work for immigration and integration is aiming towards that everyone can come and live in our municipality regardless of where they come from. The purpose of integration is that all residents can have their own part in society. A diverse populous is a strength that helps our municipality develop and become a better place to live. The voluntary sector, educational associations, businesses and individuals play an important role.

20% of children in Sweden are born abroad or have two foreign parents. At our primary school, age 13-16, 25% of the students have Swedish as a second language. Out of the 346 students at our school (upper secondary), 121 of them arrived at or after the age of compulsory primary education, ie 35%. 3

Strömsund’s municipality residents % born in other countries 2015 – more than 10 % born in other countries 5 places of accomodation for children that arrive by themselves including a halfway house – Today 68 children are registered. The agreement in 2016 is that of the 75 places, 63 will go to asylum seekers.

In a 5 year perspective

Total numbers of asylum seekers

February 1 st – February 21 st 2016 The 5 most common places for asylum seekers to arrive from

Asylum seekers the last 7 days

Our municipality As of January 31, 2016 the number of residents in asylum accommodation were 658 people in asylum accommodation, 17 in their own homes and 70 in other accomodation. In 2015, the municipality received 64 unaccompanied children, 9 girls and 55 boys. Gender aspect? As for the impact on the municipality the situation is very strained when it comes to social services and strained for the school. An appraisal of the situation is that the municipality does not recommend that additional asylum seekers and unaccompanied children in the current situation is placed in the municipality.

The prognosis for 2016? The higher prognosis is that people will seek asylum, which include children who come alone. The lower prognosis is that there will be people who seek asylum, of which will be children who come alone.

Distribution of the additional state grant The government has decided that municipalities will recieve an economic boost during We will receive €3,221,982. As well as that, the government will share €21,319,148 to the schools in 46 chosen municipalities. The extra money should support the places of education with extra needs during We will recieve €405,063.

New Laws in Sweden Temporary residence permits Limited family immigration Tighter economic restrictions Others in need of protection are not entitled to a residence permit Medical age assessment of asylum-seekers Extended identity checks

Border controls After 4 January 2016 it will be harder for you to enter Sweden if you do not have a valid passport or other identification document. Companies selling tickets for trains, buses or ferries to Sweden must ensure that those travelling have identification documents. (The requirements do not include children travelling with a parent who has a passport or other identification document.) If you have a residence permit in Sweden you must have your residence permit card and your identification documents with you to prove that you have a right to enter Sweden. Refugees who do not wish to apply for asylum in Sweden will not be granted entrance into the country. The police authority checks who has the right to be in the country. There may be legal consequences for those remaining in Sweden without seeking asylum here. The Swedish government has introduced the new rules in order to decrease the number of persons applying for asylum in Sweden.

Temporary resicence permit If the proposal is approved by the Swedish Parliament the law will be temporary and be in force from April 2016 and three years ahead. In accordance with the new law proposal people who have been judged to be refugees or people in need of subsidiary protection may be given temporary residence permits. The proposal is not meant to include quota refugees, unaccompanied children or families with children. Unaccompanied minors and families with children who applied before 24 November 2015 may still be granted a permanent residence permit based on previous rules provided that the child is still under the age of 18 at the time of the decision.
