Service Learning Service-learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service, frequently youth service, throughout the community. As a teaching methodology, it falls under the philosophy of experiential education. More specifically, it integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, encourage lifelong civic +engagement, and strengthen communities for the common good.

Benefits of Service Learning Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. An exciting, hands-on approach to education, service-learning is taking place in a wide variety of settings: schools, universities, and community-based and faith-based organizations throughout the country. Community members, students, and educators everywhere are discovering that service-learning offers all its participants a chance to take part in the active education of its youth while simultaneously addressing the concerns, needs, and hopes of their community.

Service Projects Meet the Blazers- Little kids came to Bazemore-Hyder Stadium, we (the football team) set up drills for the kids to do. Blazer Build- We (the football team) helped build a house for a woman and her family. We also did the framing work for four different houses. Blood Drive- We (the football team) set up a blood drive for the injured people that were hurt in Haiti.

Service Project Cont. Reading- I went to a local elementary school and read books to little children.

What I Got Out Of The Projects I learned a lot from doing the service-learning projects. I learned many things such as teamwork and giving back. Giving back to your community is very important because of the outcome. People appreciate and care what that other people want to help them out.
