Maximizing Your Leadership Potential Glenn Yu Session 2

Good news! Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is! – Anne Frank

I am what I am, BUT… I can be much BETTER. ● Most of us are not INTENTIONAL in striving to achieve our potential. ● Yet what is the alternative? Should we strive for mediocrity? ● Is it really prideful to want to honor God with lives of great faith and excellent work?

How not to live life… VIDEO: Balance Beam (Francis Chan)

Why strive to maximize potential? Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in His own image in the image of God created he them... ● We were created in his image. The creator of the universe created human beings in his likeness his power and creativity lives deep within and beyond our spiritual and physical make up.

Why strive to maximize potential? Colossians 3:23-24, “ 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” We are expected to do our best.

Why strive to maximize potential? Matthew 25:21, 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ We experience joy if we are faithful.

Exercise Name leaders who have maximized their potential. What QUALITIES come to mind about leaders who have maximized their potential?

DesireResult To Achieve my Maximum Potential Mediocrity No Joy Burned Out

Maximize Your Leadership Potential ● The right PERSPECTIVE ● The right PURPOSE ● The right PLAN

What PERSPECTIVE should I have? 2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Principle 1: Maximize Your Leadership Potential It's not about YOU. Align your perspective to God's perspective – Eternity.

Maximize Your Leadership Potential ● The right PERSPECTIVE ● The right PURPOSE ● The right PLAN

The importance of PURPOSE ● What stresses us is not the presence of WORK, it is the absence of PURPOSE.

The importance of PURPOSE

What is the Right PURPOSE? Matthew 6:33, “But SEEK first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

What is the Right PURPOSE? The Lord says in Hosea 6:6, “I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to KNOW me, more than I want burnt offerings.”

What is the Right PURPOSE? Matthew22:36-40, 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Principle 2: Maximize Your Leadership Potential Find PURPOSE Align your purpose to God's purpose for your life - Seek, Know and Love Him

Maximize Your Leadership Potential ● The right PERSPECTIVE ● The right PURPOSE ● The right PLAN

How do we get there? ● After we have the right perspective and we have the right purpose...we must have the RIGHT PLAN, the right blue print.

What is the Right PLAN? ● From the inside – out and not the outside – in. ● The Christian life is one of transformation – in knowing and doing God's will.

What is the Right PLAN? Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

What is difference from living the inside out and the outside in

Principle 3: Maximize Your Leadership Potential be TRANSFORMED in Christ Align our Plan to live not from OUTSIDE-IN but from the INSIDE-OUT.

Maximizing Your Leadership The Right ObstaclesPrinciple PerspectiveAll about ME, Now Eternity PurposeNo RELATIONSHIP Seek, Know and Love God PlanNo TRUST, out- side in Inside-out

Aware: Who am I? What are my self – limiting beliefs? What are my strengths? What is my personality type? What are my values? What is my purpose, passion, priorities?

Intentional: Better at What? Character – What must I BE? Competence – What must I DO? Context – What must I SEE?

Environment: Better with whom? Who are ahead of me? Who am I accountable to? Who are my team mates?
