Love that sets us Free

Some different responses and attitudes from: Luke 7

Luke 7:1-10 The centurion seeking healing for his slave. Humility and Faith

Luke 7:28-29 The people and the tax collectors, acknowledging God’s justice because they had received John’s Baptism of Repentance

Luke 7:30 The Pharisees and lawyers, rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not received John’s Baptism of Repentance Jesus exposes their heart of wanting to call the shots, be in control, having rigid ideas that must be conformed to, judging by external things but not taking note of the fruit.

Luke 7:36-50 Simon the Pharisee true heart and lack of love contrasted with the sinful woman whom he was criticizing

Luke 7:37-50 The sinful woman (probably a prostitute) who overcome with love for Jesus came into the midst of a hostile environment to love on Jesus with no holding back.

Gen 3:7-11 The fall caused such a break in our relationship with God, that inherent in man is the fear of exposure to the deepest level – God longs for us to letting Him see our innermost parts, and allowing Him access.

God’s love has come to restore back to open hearted freedom.

Repentance vs. Defensiveness by Gavin Ortlund

A defensive heart says, “But look at what I did right!” (diversion). A repentant heart says, “Here specifically is what I did wrong” (honesty).

A defensive heart says, “But look at what was done to me!” (distraction). A repentant heart says, “Here is how I contributed to the conflict” (ownership).

A defensive heart says, “It wasn’t that bad” (downplaying). A repentant heart says, “It was a big deal” (admission).

A heart of repentance is something I have to work at – like finally learning to relax a muscle we’ve always kept tight.

“Why do My people draw away from Me when I draw near?” “I’ve been drawing near.”

He wants to know us!

I saw Him stripping us ( but the picture was of a groom tenderly undressing his new bride) - He wants to truly "know" us and we keep covering ourselves with things that have been "learned" from mans misconception and religion. It's like our version of peace, joy and righteousness He is peeling off us so that in our nakedness and vulnerability we can truly know Him and be known.
