Guidelines for Preparing and Administering Medications Wash Hands Follow written med orders. Always read the medication label 3 times. Know the drug you are giving. Confirm the expected action, dosage, and route administration. Calculate the order of dosage if necessary. Ask 2 co-workers to check your calculations. Measure Medication

Types of Syringes Syringes Tuberculin Syringe Insulin Syringe Needles Are measuring devices that allow you to force Medication through a needle. Is used for small dosage. Prevention from needle sticks!!!! Never recap a needle after giving an injection. Never lay down a syringe after giving an injection. Empty sharps containers when they are three-fourths full Close lid tightly on a sharps container when moving it Immediately trigger the automatic sharps protective device and place the syringe in a puncture resistant, leak proof container.
