Presentation transcript:

Open the standard.idw template. Save copy as a different file name. If you want to create as a template, save to the c:\Program Files\Autodesk \Inventor10 \Templates folder. It is assumed that you are familiar with creating templates and projects.

Hold the control key down and select Default Border and ANSI- Large from Sheet 1. Delete You may have to expand the Browser tree to locate these. Be careful not to delete the borders and title blocks under Drawing Resources. Expand Drawing Resources.

Highlight Sheet 1 and click right mouse button. Go to Edit Sheet. Select desired sheet size. For this lesson choose size A for an 8.5 by 11 sheet oriented in the Landscape position.

Select the Format menu and Choose the Define New Border Options This will allow you to create a border as a separate layer object

Using the Two Point Rectangle option draw a rectangle on the blank sheet. Using the Create Dimension command dimension the rectangle by selecting the an edge of the drawn rectangle and a small red dot located at the corner of the sheet. If you do not see these little red dots you missed an earlier step. When complete, click the right mouse button and Save border. You will see that your border will be added to the Resource section in the browser

Select Define New Title Block from the format menu. You will begin to draw the geometry needed for your Title Block. You do not need to worry about the location of your work on the drawing sheet. Inventor will insert the Title Block and Border will load in the correct location.

Layout and dimension the geometry for your Title Block. Notice that the Title Block is not in any particular location Next we will have to add text..

Text in Title Block can be configured in three different ways depending on how you would like the format to work. 1.Plain text can be located as entered on the title block. 2. Prompted text will allow the user to enter information as needed. You will be asked to enter information related to a prompt field. 3.Property text extracts information from the drawing data base. Plain text can be used with prompted and property text.

For standard drawing text enter text as you would normally in a drawing. The text will always read as typed in the title block. You can dimension the location of the text from the green dot in the upper left corner.

Prompted text allows you to enter information in response to user defined inquiry. Such items as project name, designer, or any other information can be entered. Do not worry if the prompted text runs outside of your title block. Your response to the prompt is what will show on the drawing sheet.

Property text extracts information from a drawings data base. In this example Sheet and Drawing Properties are being used to keep track of the number of sheets in a plan set. The combining of standard and property text decreases the amount of time required to complete a title block. Type the word “Sheet” as standard text. Select Sheet Properties from Type and Number of Sheets from Properties. Click on the formula button to insert the Sheet Property into the text string. Change Type to Drawing Properties and the Property to Number Of Sheets. Repeat previous procedure to insert into text string. Standard text

When you have completed your Title Block you will need to save it. You will notice that the new or revised block will appear as a resource in the Browser. To use the new border and title block on a new sheet you will need to insert on to the new sheet. Highlight the desired border click the right mouse button. Select insert border. Repeat the process for title block.

This a very simple sheet format. You can easily create a format suitable for your needs. Logos can be drawn or added as a bitmap file. You can also place text by selecting a text box. This will allow you to use justification settings to help position text.
