. Steering Group on Climate Change-Related Statistics Purpose and objective Expert Forum for producers and users of climate change-related statistics 2-3 September 2015

Objectives – what we aim to do? The Steering Group was created under the Conference of European Statisticians in October Objectives: Provide direction to the work towards implementing the CES Recommendations Advance international work on climate change-related statistics Increase collaboration among international organizations active in measuring issues related to climate change Strengthen joint work in greenhouse gas inventories and official statistics

Members and consultations Countries: Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation International organizations: DG CLIMA of the European Commission, European Environment Agency, Eurostat, FAO and UNFCCC UNECE acts as Secretariat to the Steering Group In addition: The Steering Group will coordinate CES activities with key international organizations that are active in climate change-related statistics

Activities Steer CES activities in climate change-related statistics Organise expert meetings and oversee CES task forces, including development of guidelines, collections of good practice and capacity building Provide advice on methodological work Identify areas that require further methodological work or practical guidance Follow up on countries’ progress in – implementing the CES Recommendations and – developing climate change-related statistics in general

Timing and expected outputs The mandate is valid until November 2018 Outputs: – Promote sharing of ideas and good practice – Advance work in climate change-related statistics – Improve coherence of greenhouse gas inventories and official statistics – Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the statistical community, greenhouse gas inventory compilers and international organisations
