 Hurricane Sandy affected 24 states.  It hit the eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine.  Particularly severe damage in New Jersey and New York.  Hurricane Sandy made landfalls in Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas and had significant effects in Haiti.

 Reported estimated damage caused by Sandy was $50 billion.  More than 650,000 U.S. homes were damaged or destroyed by the storm.  8,100,000 homes lost power.  The dollar value of the lost business activity was 25,000,000,000.  While passing over Jamaica, it dumped up to 28 inches of rain.

 Began as a tropical wave in the Caribbean on October 19.  It became a tropical depression in just six hours.  It upgraded to a hurricane on Oct. 24 when its maximum sustained winds reached 74 mph.  A full moon made high tides 20 percent higher than normal  Category 3 Hurricane.  89 mph winds were recorded when Hurricane Sandy moved through New Jersey.

 Some of entertainment's biggest stars were part of MTV's "Restore the Shore".  MTV shows including "Awkward," "Teen Wolf," "Teen Mom," "The Challenge," and "The Real World" - were live in MTV's Times Square studio, calling donors to thank them for giving.  Stars contributing were One Direction, Kim Kardashian, Ne-Yo, Bruno Mars, fun., the Jonas Brothers, All Time Low, Sean Kingston and many more.

 Sandy Relief Concert  It took place on December 12, 2012, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Many famous performers took part in the charity event, including Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, Chris Martin, The Who, and Kanye West.  The concert was podcasted live on 39 U.S. television stations.  It was also streamed on over twenty-five websites.

 They spent an estimated $110 million by the end of December on Super storm Sandy emergency relief.  As of December 17, the American Red Cross has received $202 million in donations and pledges for its Sandy response.  They are serving more than 9 million meals and snacks.  Handing out more than 6.7 million relief items such as cold weather items and clean-up supplies.  Providing more than 103,000 health services and emotional support contacts for people living in very tough conditions.  Supported more than 81,000 shelter stays, more than half of the total number of Sandy shelters.

 The President of the United States came to New Jersey on Wednesday October 31.  President Obama was with Gov. Chris Christie on the ground in Jersey and then in the air.  The evening of Nov. 1, president Obama approved a 100 percent cost share in for ten days, starting October 31, for emergency work for power and transportation systems in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut counties.  other forms of Category B (emergency work) public assistance would remain at a 75 percent cost share.  FEMA and the Department of Defense supplied water, meals, blankets and other resources closer to potentially impacted areas, should they be needed and requested by the state.
