Introduction Mission Santa Barbara was founded on December 4, 1786 by Father Fermin Lausen. It was used as a mission from 1786 to now.

Location Mission Santa Barbara is located on 2201 Laguna Street in the resort of Santa Barbara.

Chumash Men Men hunted for food such as fish and small animals. The men were the head of the tribe they were the toughest so they ruled all the Chumash. When it was colder they wore coats that reached their waists.

Chumash Women Women wore skirts made of antelope hide or deerskin that reached their knees. Women gathered fruits, nuts, birds, and veggies. After picking acorns they would ground the material with flour.

Boys were taught by elders to hunt and make tools. Chumash Children Boys were taught by elders to hunt and make tools. Girls learned by the women elders to cook and weave baskets.

Father Juniperro Serra Even though Father Serra didn’t found Mission Santa Barbara he is still important because he was going to found Mission Santa Barbara, but he died 2 years before. Father Fermin Lausen was a friend of Juniperro so he founded Mission Santa Barbara for him.

Saint Barbara Mission Santa Barbara and the city of Santa Barbara was named after Saint Barbara. She was born in 218 AD. Father Fermin Lausen named it after her because she is an important saint.

Daily Life The neophytes daily routine varied day to day. A day for the neophytes started at sunrise when everyone went to the chapel to pray. Two missionaries headed the mission.

Hardships The rebellions at the mission were growing. Even though the Indians at Mission Santa Barbara didn’t rebel the soldiers looked at them critically. Disease brought by the Spaniards spread around California and many neophytes died.

Conclusion My conclusion is that Mission Santa Barbara is a pretty place to be and I hope I can visit my mission someday.

Interesting Facts Mission Santa Barbara never got destroyed by Indians but it got destroyed by earthquakes. Mission Santa Barbara is still used as a church today.
