How to describe and interpret the landscape regions in NYS Determining the different types of landscape regions found in NYS using the ESRT.

The Map The map of NYS shows the division lines between the types of landscapes. You need to know why certain areas are classified as certain types of landscapes.

The Catskills

Vocabulary Landscape: A region on Earth’s surface in which distinct physical features set them apart from one another. Landforms: features on the Earth’s surface such as hills, mountains, streams, etc.

Mountain A landform that rises at least 300 meters (984 ft) from the Earth’s surface in the form of a peak, and has steep sides. It has undergone deformation (folding and twisting of rock). The Adirondacks, The Rocky Mountains, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest

Plateau A landform made up of large areas of flat land at high elevations. Tibetan Plateau, Colorado Plateau, Alleghany Plateau
