Peer Mediation SGPHS Laban DeLay Peer Mediation

Advantages of the program u Reduces minor discipline office referrals by a minimum of 25%. u Creates a win-win solution. u Fewer fights. u Teachers have more time to teach. u Creates a sense of caring and peace on campus. u Students learn a lifelong communication and problem-solving skill.

Types of sponsors u Teachers or counselors who are both respected by the faculty as well as the students. u A teacher who could possibly have peer mediation as his/her duty. u A teacher or counselor who truly wants the position.

How to select a team u Have a brief introduction to the program at a faculty meeting. u Have the teachers announce the program in class, and have students nominate themselves or others. u Teachers and counselors should nominate also. u Have the sponsors review the list of nominees and select six per grade level. u Select a diverse group of students.

Training u Select four students to be team representatives. u Have them, as well as the sponsor attend the training on September 20, u One of the sponsors must be present with their students
