#JamesPCC 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. -James 5:13-20

#JamesPCC 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. -James 5:13-20

#JamesPCC 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. -James 5:13-20

#JamesPCC 19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. -James 5:13-20

#JamesPCC God is interested in sincerity not stage presence.

#JamesPCC “I would rather teach one man to pray than ten men to preach.” – Charles Spurgeon

#JamesPCC “Prayer is not primarily saying words or thinking thoughts. It is, rather, a stance. It’s a way of living in the Presence.” – Richard Rohr

#JamesPCC 1.When I am hurting emotionally "Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray.” v.13

#JamesPCC It was only when I lay there on rotting prison straw that I sensed within myself the first stirring of good. Gradually, it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes, not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through all human hearts. So bless you prison, for having been in my life -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

#JamesPCC 2. When I'm hurting physically "Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned he will be forgiven.” v

#JamesPCC 3. When I'm hurting spiritually “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” v. 16

#JamesPCC "To confess your sins to God is not to tell Him anything He doesn't already know. Until you confess them, however, they are the abyss between you. When you confess them, they become the bridge." - Frederick Buechner

#JamesPCC Our churches are filled with people who outwardly look contented and at peace but inwardly are crying out for someone to love them... just as they are— confused, frustrated, often frightened, guilty, and often unable to communicate even within their own family. But the other people in the church look so happy and contented that one seldom has the courage to admit his own deep needs before such a self-sufficient group as the average church meeting appears to be - Keith Miller

#JamesPCC WHO CAN PRAY?

#JamesPCC WHO CAN PRAY? "Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it wouldn't rain and it didn't rain on the land for three and a half years. He prayed again and the heavens gave rain and the earth produced its crops." v. 17

#JamesPCC “If we truly love people, we will desire for them far more than it is within our power to give them, and this will lead us to prayer. Intercession is a way of loving others. When we move from petition to intercession we are shifting our center of gravity from our own needs to the needs and concerns of others.” - Richard Foster
