Region: Northeast manufacturing, industry limited natural resources good rivers, for power and transport poor conditions for farming

Subdivided into New England and the Mid-Atlantic States The most densely populated, heavily industrialized, and ethnically diverse region of the USA. Subdivided into New England and the Mid-Atlantic States

NORTHEAST “gateway’ to America for millions of immigrants 5 % of the entire US land area, but holds 20% of the population “gateway’ to America for millions of immigrants Mid-Atlantic referred to as ‘rust-belt’ because of declining industries More people work in manufacturing and service industries Home to first Megalopolis, “BosWash”

Region: South 1. flat coastal plain 2. oil industry – fishing industry 3. even distribution of population w/ large cities 4. linked politically in former confederate union 5. becoming the manufacturing center of the U.S.

The South’s Geography includes: the Tidewater along the Atlantic Coast, the Piedmont extending to the coal-rich Appalachian Mountains, the Mississippi River Valley, and the subtropical coastal belt along the Gulf of Mexico

The South Covers ¼ of land area, contains 1/3 of population 11 of 16 states seceded from Union during Civil War Once rural agricultural area, it is rapidly changing Referred to as ‘sunbelt’ bc of climate Air conditioning brought a boost to industry Rapidly growing.
