Applications Software

Is a software used to carry out a particular task e.g. a game or word processor

Locally installed software (CD/DVD/downloaded) Works without being online You hold the licence to use the software You control access to the computer so security is good However Takes up a large amount of space When downloads must upgrade to fix bugs All data is stored locally so must be backed up

Hosted software (Software as a Service) Software does not take up any file space on the PC Allows users from different parts of the world to on work on the same computer at the same time However Cant work without Internet connection Not a secure host and can be targeted by hackers Response time depends on the network speed

Commercial response to Saas Hosted software or software as a service (Saas) is when you run applications such as word or spreadsheet in a web browser. The applications are not installed on your local computer

Commercial software producers make money from selling their products however they also offering it for free online such as MS office and GoogleDocs.

Companies came up with a way to keep customers buying Made their products more appealing, better quality and functions Provide software bundle so when purchase a computer it comes with it Provided technical support and training materials Use copy rights to protect their products Offered their own version of software as a service

List benefits to the environment of hosted software
