Advances in F OUNDATION Fieldbus Provide Enhanced Interoperability With Improved Usability

Presenters Stephen Mitschke Director of Fieldbus Products Fieldbus Foundation

Introduction “5-minute” Introduction to the Fieldbus Foundation & F OUNDATION ™ technology Test and Registration Program Overview What’s new in ITK Profile 6 System Interoperability with Host Profile Registration Conclusions

Fieldbus Foundation IP development Promote Digital Interoperable Vendor neutral Automation focused 500 members/affiliates

By the Numbers ,000 1,000,000+ registered products registered hosts control systems devices in service

Digital Technology PV = 392.8mb IS interfaceI/O card Field JB + marshalling PV = 392.8mb GOOD PV = 393.1mb PV = 392.8mb GOOD Fieldbus 4-20mA

F OUNDATION Fieldbus Differentiators Scalable, Automation Infrastructure Function Block Based Architecture Multi drop, Multi-variable Reduced Footprint Integrated Data Quality from sensing to actuation Control in the Field offers Single Loop Integrity High Performance, Interrupt Driven Alerts Isochronous Communication Device Level Time Stamping Approved for use in Safety Instrumented Systems Rigorous Test and Registration Program

Registration Program 3 rd Party compliance testing executed by the Fieldbus Foundation –Field Devices –Fieldbus Power Suppliers/Conditioners –Couplers –Cable –Hosts First registered product 1998 Interoperability Test Kit (ITK) is only one of many tools used for product registration

Key Feature Enhancements SelectionConfigurationCommissioningMaintenanceReplacement Error Free Download Field Diagnostic Specification Host Profile Test and Registration Device Replacement Guideline and Specifications Device Level Methods and Views

Commissioning User Experience –Download offline configuration results in errors –Multiple downloads typically resolve errors, but this increases overall commissioning time Analysis –Devices apply checks to maintain consistency during download –Device expects a specific order for parameter download –Some parameters should not be written during an automated download

ITK 6 Profile Improves Commissioning “no_download” lists inform host which parameters should not be part of an automated download –Described in EDD –e.g. calibration parameters –e.g. vendor specific behavioral parameters Deferral of inter-parameter checks –Disables consistency checks during automated download –Once completed, device re-evaluates configuration –Reduces errors due to parameter order mismatch New parameter BLOCK_ERR_DESC_n –Provides more detail to the configuration block error

Maintenance User Experience –Maintenance is a costly activity –Digital networks can provide information overload –Diagnostic data is represented in different forms, making integration difficult Analysis –Condition based monitoring can improve maintenance management –A common structured approach across networks is necessary to bring the right information to the right person in context.

Types of Maintenance Activities Performed on a healthy asset. Unnecessary maintenance Performed after the asset has failed. Reactive maintenance Performed on a regular schedule Preventive maintenance Schedule based on basis of failure rate and drift statistics. Predictive maintenance Schedule based on built-in asset diagnostics. Proactive maintenance Combination of proactive maintenance along with special events (e.g. shutdown) Opportunity based maintenance Source: Rong Gul, Shell Global Solution, Diagnostics from Safety Devices using F OUNDATION ™ Fieldbus.

NAMUR NE107: Self-Monitoring and Diagnosis of Field Devices Diagnosis results must be reliable Diagnosis results must always be viewed in the context of the application. Internal diagnosis must be categorized into 4 standard “status signals” Configuration must be free, as reactions will depend on the user's requirements Detailed information can be read out by the device specialist

Role Based Diagnostics 1 Asset Management Maintenance Station Process Control Engineering Station HSE Control Network H1 Process Network Plant operators Plant maintenance engineering

ITK 6 Field Diagnostic Alerts Improve Maintenance Additional supporting parameters –Enable/Disable of diagnostic detection –Enable/Disable Simulation –Configure Priority –Configure Alert Suppression (Detect, but not alert) –Recommended Actions Parameter NameNE107 Status Signal FD_FAIL_ALMFailure FD_OFFSPEC_ALMOut of Specification FD_MAINT_ALMMaintenance Required FD_CHECK_ALMFunction Check * Parameter names will have localized text labels. e.g. “Failure Alarm”

Device Replacement User Experience –Delivered/Replacement devices are sometimes newer than the device used during initial configuration –Replacing devices is semi-automated Analysis –Enhanced specifications for hosts and devices supports automated device replacement

ITK 6 Improves Device Replacement Fieldbus Foundation published an application note for suppliers to define rules for ‘Like’ device replacement New parameter COMPATIBILITY_REV declare compatibility rules Enables systems to use an updated device that was commissioned with a prior version device version Simplify the 2 a.m. device replacement scenario

Device Setup and Maintenance User Experience –Data presentation and methods (procedures) are restricted to blocks –Users may need interact with more than one block, especially with complex/modular devices Analysis –Extend EDDL technology to include device level menus and methods –Also referred as “X-Block”

ITK 6 Profile Support new EDDL features Integration technology for device setup and maintenance

Host Profile Registration Operations Maintenance Engineering Note: Illustrations are examples only. Class 61 – Integrated Host Class 63/64 – Bench Host Class 62 – Visitor Host

Host Profile Specification - Key Features Defines five profiles –Integrated Host –Bench Host (for use with on-process devices) –Bench Host (for use with non-commissioned devices) –Visitor Host –F OUNDATION for Safety Instrumented Functions Integrated Host For each profile, features are marked –(M)andatory - required for system interoperability –(O)ptional - useful, but not essential –(P)rohibited - to prevent interoperability issues Staged Implementation –Two stage profile (6Xa, 6Xb) provides time for systems to become compliant

Host Profile Features

Host Registration H2H1H2H1H2H1H2H1H2H Host Interoperability Support Test (HIST) 1.x Valid through Dec 2008 Host 6Xb Profile Test/Registration Host 6Xa Profile Test/Registration Valid through June Registered Hosts 10 Registered Hosts

Summary ITK 6 incorporates 618 new test case scripts –35% increase from ITK 5 All new device registrations must meet ITK 6 Profile after September 2011 New features improve configuration, commissioning, maintenance and replacement experiences Reduce complexity while increasing interoperability and productivity Host testing assures features are consistent across systems
