African American Culture

When we hear of African Americans we think of the many names they have been given in society. In the United States History they have been referred to as  Negros  African Americans  blacks  Afro-Americans.

The African American culture put a great deal of their focus on  family, religion, and the older people whom they work extra hard to care for.  They also love and cherish their children and youth as well.  One of the major family values has been listed as African American parents having a strict and authoritarian parenting style.

When you look at the total picture of the many things that’s going on in the African American culture you will find that many men, women, and children are suffering.  due to drugs, sexual assaults,  the children having to live through and survive domestic violence as well as parents and other adults abusing their children, as well as other people children.  children had to deal with their fathers not being in the homes as well as their parents being without a job.  The worst thing that they have to cope with is the high rate of African Americans being diagnosed with HIV.

The murder rate in the culture is high and continues to rise each and every year. Despite a welcome decline in violent Crime rates nationwide, African-American males are still dying from criminal homicides at an alarming rate. According to statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), violent Crime in the United States has fallen since Politicians of both parties have hailed the news of this recent decline, but violent Crime rates remain unacceptably high and continue to be well above levels experienced before the 1960s. Murder Rates of the African American Culture

High School Drop Out in African American Culture There is a very high rate of high school drop outs in the African American Culture. A great deal of the dropouts stimulates from the environment the children were raised in as well as the family background. You find a higher number of dropouts in the lower poverty areas because of the poor living situations. Many of the young black boys drop out of school and began to hustle by selling drugs in order to help their mother take care of the home, due to not having a father there to do it. The schools in the lower poverty arears does not help to encourage them to stay in school as well.

For example, Oprah Winery is an African American famous women who has done great things for her culture. She was born January 29, 1954 and in her life has become a millionaire.  She is a media proprietor  actress  producer  Oprah Winfrey is also well known for starting the Leadership Academy for Girls which is launched in South Africa. Famous African American

The teaching strategies are also important when teaching this culture. The way the teacher talks, weather the teacher is patient or firm play a big part in educating some students as well as adults in the African American culture. Motivational techniques help to enhance the student’s skills and give them a drive to want to do their work. In order to teach and motivate children of the African American culture you must make sure that you accept them in a non-bias way. You have to learn the child and see them for whom they are. Being real and showing true heart felt care is the best way to motivate children of this culture.

These teachers experience greater positive communication with the African American students and the student receives much higher positive reinforcement for their efforts, such as verbal praise, approving smiles, and encouraging pats on the shoulder. (Rosenzweig, 434). Teacher Communication with African American Students

In order for things to change and remain stable in the African American culture, the parents are going to have to do more parent involvement. Many children in this culture go to school and the parent never has meet the teacher.

In conclusion the African American culture has been through a lot; however, due to some powerful African American people there is still a chance for the culture to grow and develop in a more positive outlook. OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!!
