Jasper folks Kaplan University Unit 4 Assignment HW

Introduction According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) The ginkgo tree is one of the oldest types of trees in the world. Ginkgo seeds have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, and cooked seeds are rarely eaten. Traditionally, ginkgo leaf extract has been used to treat a variety of ailments and conditions, including asthma, bronchitis, fatigue, and (ringing or roaring sounds in the ears). Today, people uses ginkgo leaf extracts to improve memory; to treat or help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia; to decrease intermittent claudicating (leg pain caused by narrowing arteries); and to treat sexual dysfunction, multiple sclerosis, and other health conditions.

The educational resources that is available that I recommend? Is Medline plus it’s also the National Institutes of Health's Web site for patients and their families and friends. Produced by the National Library of Medicine, it brings you information about diseases, conditions,Health and wellness issues in language you can understand. Medline Plus offers reliable, up- to-date health information, anytime, anywhere, and for free according to Medline plus (1990).

What recommendations do you want to give regarding this topic? According to National Institutes of Health (NIH) (2009) the herbal supplement ginkgo can interact with the blood-thinning medication warfarin (Coumadin) and increase the risk of serious bleeding complications you also can’t mix Aspirin with ginkgo it may cause bleeding as well. I recommend you talk with your doctor first before taking herbal supplements if you take prescription medications. Your doctor and pharmacist can help you avoid risky interactions.

What precautions do you want to be sure to discuss? Before taking this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. If you have bleeding problem, diabetes or seizures seek immediate medical attention right away.

What the Science Says According to Medline plus (1990) Overall, the evidence on ginkgo for symptoms of intermittent claudicating a pain that’s caused by not enough blood flow during actives has not yet shown a significant benefit for this condition, although several small studies have found modest improvements. There is conflicting evidence on the efficacy of ginkgo for ringing in the ears (Tinnitus).
