Making the difference for disabled staff – making them feel part of the team Will Bee

Equality Act Definition of Disability A disabled person is someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has an effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to- day activities. That effect must be: substantial (that is, more than minor or trivial) adverse; and long term (that is, it has lasted or is likely to last for at least a year or for the rest of the life of the person affected).

Meeting the Equality Act 2010: learning from disability equality schemes in higher education in England "From the sample of institutions involved, the majority of disabled staff involved in the research felt that their institution prioritised disability equality for students over staff“

Reasonable Adjustments An employer’s duty to make reasonable adjustments aims to make sure that, as far as is reasonable, a disabled worker has the same access to everything that is involved in doing and keeping a job as a non-disabled person. When the duty arises, and employer is under a positive and proactive duty to take steps to remove or reduce or prevent the obstacles a disabled worker or job applicant faces.
