Periodic Reports for Europe and North America will be examined by the World Heritage Committee in 2005 and 2006 Periodic Reporting Europe and North America

According to Article 29 of the Convention The States Parties shall submit periodic reports every six years on the provisions taken for: a)the application of the Convention; and b)the state of conservation of the properties inscribed on the List in their territories The purpose is to: 1.provide an assessment of the application of the Convention and the maintenance of the values of the properties inscribed; 2.give updated information on the state of conservation of these properties; 3.provide a mechanism for regional cooperation.

North America Two meetings for Canada and the United States (January 2003, Los Angeles, January 2004, Quebec) : Canada-US Steering Committee created Working groups at Parks Canada and US National Park Service Integration of reports on Parks Canada web- server and presentation to the Committee in 2005

States Parties to do: States Parties are requested to submit their Section I by 1 September 2004 in both electronic form and signed hardcopy; Focal Points should work with site managers on Section II; and site managers compile all information concerning their sites; States Parties are requested to submit their Section II by 1 September 2005 in both electronic form and signed hardcopy;

Working group The meeting in Nicosia (May 2003) agreed to establish an open Working Group to provide advice and support throughout the whole Periodic Reporting process and participate in sub-regional workshops. -Chairperson: Tamás Fejérdy (Hungary) -Rapporteur: Christopher Young (UK) -Secretariat: Europe Unit WHC -Participation of advisory bodies -Participation of focal points

Cooperation with the Council of Europe Data sharing of electronic tools envisaged Agreement by States Parties required Participation in relevant meetings (e.g. Berlin, Germany June 2004)

Timetables States Parties are encouraged to consider the deadlines and update their national timetables for Periodic Reporting accordingly
