OUR PRIORITY We earnestly believe in skills development and in adding value to our clients and to the greater economy, locally and nationally. We are in the business of quality education and skills development. Our expertise are in the fields of Artisan Training and Skills Development at High School and FET College level Our strategy is based on the VALUE CHAIN APPROACH to education and skills development The value chain approach is defined as an educational pathway that leads, skills and nurtures the learners from high school into the FET college sector and right into the gates of Industry. Our strategy is specifically designed to create artisans in the fields of Automotive Mechanics, Fitting and Machining, Electrical and Welding all designed for the South African economy

We believe in establishing a world class institution by constantly keeping abreast with technology and by up grading our facilities. We believe in establishing and maintaining a corporate wide commitment to excellence in all aspects and activities of our business including safety, quality, efficiency and reliability. Achieve accreditation at level – 4 in all the trades we cater for and to introduce Boiler Making in the near future. Up-grade all our workshops with the necessary tools and equipment. Carry out an extensive building maintenance programme on all workshops and up-grade five classrooms including furniture and fittings. Up-skill all FET College staff with the appropriate skills and qualifications and improve our operating efficiency. MISSION

MISSION (cont..) Develop Artisan and technical skills throughout high school levels (Grade 10-Grade 12) Create a value chain (pathway) for our learners to move from high school through to the FET sector and into Industry. Ensure that our high school and our FET college delivers a high level of Education and skills that matches the skills quality that industry requires. Negotiate placement opportunities with industry for our learners.

SUCCESSES Our strategy of developing our learners at a high school level is yielding the desired results. High school learners that move across to the FET College are better prepared for a Learnership/Apprenticeship. Education skills: Math and Science skills in place. Technical drawing skills and interpretation of drawings. Three years of High school with the aid of FET College have instilled learners with workshop and safety acumen. Learners enter industry with a greater level of success.

GREATEST CHALLENGES Community struggling to afford school fees even though rate is reasonable. The cost of staffing according to specialist skills. Cost of materials and equipment. Our location does not have a large enough affluent middle class. Difficulty for High School to attract paying clients.

Industry Partnerships Our Value Chain Approach to Education and Skills Development is completely reliant on Industry partnerships Both Apprenticeship and Learnership approaches to skills development require Industry participation at a high level Partnerships must have benefits for all parties (Learner; Industry Partner and the school) Industry must be prepared to get their hands dirty Industry must be prepared to take joint ownership of the training programme It is wise that all parties cover themselves with a carefully thought out and worded agreement that will last for the duration of the programe.

Impact of revised B-BBEE codes The Revised B-BBEE can be a great enabler in terms of partnerships between Industry and schools The new codes prioritizes Ownership, Skills Development and Supplier Development as priority elements to accomplish workplace transformation, a reduction in unemployment and job creation Organizations that do not achieve the subminimum target for any of these elements will be discounted by one level

B-BBEE Impact on Skills Development Training Expenditure Skills Development is the priority driver underpinning transformation in the workplace The target of training expenditure of black learners has increased from 3% to 6%, with the number of points going up from six to eight It now also makes provision for black people irrespective of whether they are employed or unemployed

Learnerships The total number of points increased from six to eight for learnerships A split between black people and black unemployed people was introduced This means that you can get points under black people and under Black unemployed people if you enrol black people into a learnership programme (Generic Scorecard) Furthermore, the total cost of their stipends and employment for the duration of the programme is included under training expenditure

Training Unemployed Learners The new codes allocates bonuses for absorbtion of unemployed learners, once these learners have completed their training The emphasis is thus to support learners all the way to qualification New codes emphasizes a drive towards formal training in line with the country’s economic growth and social development goals. (Informal training capped at 15%) New codes limits legitimate training costs only to costs related to the administration and presentation of training (Capped at 15% of training expenditure)
