TRANSPORT IN ANTARCTICA

Destination: Antarctica  Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, containing the geographic South Pole.  Area is 14,107,000 km².  About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages at least 1.9 kilometres in thickness.  Depending on the season the population is from 4000 people living in summer and 1000 in winter.  Population density is 0 people/km².

ROADS......one road, frankly speaking.

Highway McMurdo - South Pole Highway is an approx. 1,601 km long. It links the US McMurdo Station on the coast to the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station. It was constructed by leveling snow and filling in crevasse. Highway is an approx. 1,601 km long. It links the US McMurdo Station on the coast to the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station. PERSONAL TRANSPORT

Dog Sleds Dogs can make sled trips length of more than 1000 km. Duration of working life of the polar dog in the Antarctic is about eight years according to observations. Dogs can run about 30 km per day! Many times attempts were made to use as a transport other animals, but the results are always not successful. Dogs can make sled trips length of more than 1000 km. Lotus Ice Vehicle Ice Vehicle is the new age vehicle that will help you explore the Antarctica. The vehicle has a prop in the back while it has three ski feet to ride on. For the purpose of breaking it has a spiked front foot thus stopping the vehicle instantly. For navigational purposes it has ice radar so all in all it is sure a gizmo loaded mean machine. Tracked Vehicles Tracked vehicles are widespread in the cold continent. Such machines are used in research and transport purposes. In such a harsh environment breaking machine can become a very serious problem and even lead to a tragic outcome, so here use the latest technologies and systems. When around the snowy wilderness and no landmarks, car has to be carried like a ship for the course in a car navigator responsible in possession of various navigation equipment. Due to the uneven ground in the car constantly pitching people seasick hard overcome distances.

Snowmobiles Snowmobiles are petrol powered over- snow vehicles which drive one or two rubber tracks. They are good work horses and can travel long distances unsupported, carrying about 60 kg, as well as pulling small sleds with loads of about 500 kg. AIR TRANSPORT

Airports There are 20 airports in Antarctica. To ensure safe take-off and landing strips should be completely cleared of snow. And because of the constant winds and snowfall, ensure the cleanliness of the runway is not possible. Due to adverse seasonal conditions none airport does not meet international standards, so they are used mainly in emergency situations, for domestic flights and delivery of necessary supplies.
