Multiplication Objective: Multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.

Product The answer to a multiplication problem. Factor A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product. Ex: 4 x 6 = 24, 4 and 6 are factors of 24 Multiply - The act of finding the total number of items in a given number of groups when each group contains the same number of items. It is a short cut for addition. Array An arrangement that shows objects in rows and columns. Vocabulary **** **** **** 4 Example: 3 x 4 = 12 3

Vocabulary continued Set -a group of items. Time s - to multiply. Multiple - the product of a whole number and any other number Ex: the multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15. **** ****

6 x product What multiplication number sentence can we use to represent this set of squares? What word can we use to describe the arrangement of this set? 6 and 4 are the factors in this problem

Multiply without regrouping 2 3 x Multiply the numbers in the ones place. Put the 9 in the ones place of the product.

Multiply without regrouping 2 3 x Multiply the tens place in the top number by the ones place in the bottom number. Put that answer in the tens place of the product. 6

Practice Demonstration Practice x 3 x 4 x 4 x Find the product.

Multiplication with regrouping 12 x x

6 1 Multiply the numbers in the ones place. Put the 6 in the ones place of the product. Regroup the 1 to the tens place.

1 2 x x Multiply the tens place in the top number by the ones place in the bottom number. Then you take this number and add the 1. Put that answer in the tens place of the product. 9

Practice Demonstration w/regrouping Practice w/regrouping x 3 x 5 x 5 x Find the product.

Review the vocabulary Product Multiplier Multiply Factor Set Array Times
