“...Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of information services available to state and local justice and law enforcement agencies …” 4 Creating an integrated and automated criminal justice information network with Dept. of Justice, Dept. of Corrections, Dept. of Health and Human Service and Courts. 4 This integrated, automated data network will be available to all local law enforcement and justice agencies.

Mission Statement- Montana Criminal Justice Information System 4 Protects the privacy rights of citizens 4 Maintains the security of the information 4 Allows cost effective information sharing among law enforcement, courts and other governmental agencies and the public as provided in law. 4 Avoids unnecessary duplication.

Statement of MCJISP Operational Requirements: 4 Every MT criminal justice agency shall be able to determine the MT correctional status (incarcerated, on parole, on probation, under community services or correctional supervision) within 2 minutes, with status currency of 24 hours. 4 Every MT criminal justice agency shall be able to obtain the felony (and high misdemeanors) MT criminal history record of a person who has one, within 4 minutes, with history currency of 24 hours. A national fingerprint check within 2 hours.

Setting Standards and Best Practices: (NGA Funds) 4 The MCJISP Advisory Group authorized two sub- committees to research issues and make recommendations by November 2002: –Standards Sub-Committee will review existing national and state standards for data (information) and transmission (networks) and make recommendations for adoption of future standards. –Best Practices Sub-Committee will review the existing flow of criminal justice information from initial arrest through local booking, charges filed, adjudication, disposition and custody. The Sub-Committee will make recommendations to increase accuracy, efficiency and preferred method of automation.
