5 CJIS History 1995 - Crime Commission acted on NIDCAC recommendation to form a standing body for advice and direction on CJ data sharing and technology Forum for planning and information sharing Initiates projects or provides facilitation for agency projects GOALS Better access to data Integrated Criminal Justice Information System Select CJIS Projects Agency Automation – Jail JMS, LE RMS, Prosecution CMS, Accident Diagramming, TraCS TraCS development is underway NCJIS (NE Criminal Justice Information System) – Internet data portal

6 NIDTS Goals Improve the flow of data about impaired drivers through the criminal justice cycle Move TraCS to NSP & NSP CE mobile environment Make TraCS available to local agencies Modify Sleuth to be consistent with TraCS/eCitations Transfer data across applications Improve the access to data about impaired drivers Improve NCJIS data on impaired drivers Modify NCJIS to search by offense/DUI Improve statistical data sets about impaired drivers

7 eCitations TraCS NE licensed TraCS from Iowa in 2002 Now developing citation module Pilot and initial use in weigh stations Transfer data to JUSTICE Grant will allow use in NSP (limited) and CE mobile Will make TraCS available to local agencies Intend to develop accident and incident modules Sleuth (LE RMS) Will modify citation module to be state compliant Includes accident reporting

10 NCJIS Developed to provide secure, cost effective access to a variety of CJ data; Online data portal live in 2000 Data includes PCH, Corrections, Jail holds, Probationers, Protection orders, Local incidents, Sex offenders, DMV Currently has about 240 agencies/offices participating Police Departments, Sheriff's Offices County Attorneys, Public Defenders State Agencies Federal Agencies Probation Offices State and County Corrections

11 NCJIS Goals Enhance searches by offense type to find impaired driver information Probable current data sets: jail, PCH, DCS, probation, DMV NIBRS+ - extracts to include DUI data Must work with Sleuth and other RMS providers UPCOMING: Subscription/notification, Warrants, Citations, Court index, Crash report entry / DOR Develop statistical extracts or access for better knowledge of impaired driver activity
